Thoughts ahead of America 250

Imagine going to someone’s birthday party just to remind everyone of their worst moments while obsessing over current imperfections.
That would be pretty strange, wouldn’t it?
Yet as we celebrate America’s 250th, it seems expression of gratitude is often met with a “Yeah, but…”
Yes, America has made mistakes. So has every nation. So has every person. Acknowledging that doesn’t require making it the centerpiece of every celebration.
America’s story is bigger than its failures. It’s a story of freedom, innovation, hard work, sacrifice, opportunity, resilience, and millions of people working to leave this country better than they found it. That’s worth celebrating.
For a couple of days, let’s trade cynicism for gratitude. Celebrate the freedoms we enjoy, the sacrifices that built this country, and the opportunities that still exist today. And try to keep all 10 fingers.
Happy 250th, America. I’m grateful to call this country home. ![]()
