Weight Loss Wednesday – Volume 3: The biggest thing keeping you overweight probably isn’t food. It’s your mindset.

I know that’s not the answer most people want to hear, because it’s easier to believe there’s a better diet, a better workout, or a better medication waiting to solve the problem. But if that were true, I wouldn’t have spent years starting over every Monday.
When I started on June 7, 2011, I weighed 237 pounds. I had just bought size-40 pants because my 38s no longer fit. At the time, I thought my biggest problem was what I was eating.
It wasn’t.
My biggest problem was that I hadn’t yet become the person who could consistently make healthy decisions. I wanted the results without changing the habits and mindset that created the problem in the first place.
The food mattered. Exercise mattered. But those things only started working once I changed the way I thought.
I stopped looking for the fastest answer and started building a lifestyle I could actually live with. I quit negotiating with myself. I accepted that healthy people make healthy choices most days, even when they don’t feel like it.
Fifteen years later, I’ve maintained a 92-pound weight loss. Looking back, the greatest transformation wasn’t my body.
It was my identity.
The greatest benefit of getting healthy wasn’t losing 92 pounds.
It was becoming someone who no longer needed to start over.
