Confessions of a GLP-1 Dealer

Volume 2: The Questions You Should Be Asking

GLP-1 medications can be an incredible tool. They can also be a shortcut to losing muscle, slowing your metabolism, and eventually regaining the weight if they’re used without a plan.

That’s why the most important decision isn’t which medication you take. It’s who is guiding you through the process.

Before you start, here are a few questions every patient should ask:

1. What’s the long-term plan? If the answer is simply, “Stay on this forever,” I’d want a better conversation. Every patient deserves to understand what success looks like and what happens after the weight comes off.

2. How are we protecting my muscle? Weight loss isn’t the goal. Fat loss is. If you’re not talking about protein intake and resistance training, you’re leaving too much to chance.

3. How much protein should I be eating? Your appetite will likely decrease. That makes every bite count. Protein should become a priority, not an afterthought.

4. Should I be strength training?

Absolutely. You don’t have to become a bodybuilder, but your muscles need a reason to stick around.

5. What lifestyle changes am I expected to make? A medication can help create the calorie deficit. It can’t build lifelong habits for you.

6. What’s our exit strategy? Nobody likes talking about this, but everyone should. If you eventually stop the medication, what is the plan to keep the weight off?

We offer GLP-1s because I’ve seen them change lives.

I also know they’re only one piece of the puzzle.

The medication may help you lose weight, but your daily habits are what determine whether you keep it off.

That’s the conversation every patient deserves to have.

(This is the second post in a new weekly series called Confessions of a GLP Dealer. Every Tuesday, I’ll share an honest lesson I’ve learned from working with these medications—the good, the bad, and everything in between.
