Weight Loss Wednesday – Volume 4: Stop Waiting to Feel Motivated

One of the biggest myths in weight loss is that successful people are more motivated than everyone else. They’re not.

The people who lose the weight and keep it off simply stop negotiating with themselves. They don’t wake up every morning excited to exercise. They don’t always feel like meal prepping. They don’t always want to pass on dessert. They simply decided long ago that their long-term goals matter more than their short-term feelings.

When I lost 92 pounds, motivation got me started, but discipline kept me going. There were plenty of mornings I didn’t feel like getting up, plenty of workouts I didn’t want to do, and plenty of healthy meals I’d rather not have eaten. That’s normal. I still have those moments. I don’t always want to do what I need to do.

Feelings come and go. Habits stick around.

Every time you choose discipline over convenience, you’re casting a vote for the person you’re becoming. Stop waiting until you feel motivated. Build the discipline to do it anyway.

One day you’ll look back and realize the life you wanted wasn’t built on your most motivated days. It was built on the ordinary days when you kept your promise to yourself.
