Media Fasting and Preparing for 62 Miles
I’m running 62 miles on Saturday. It will be my first 100k race. How am I preparing? Lots of DDP Yoga, while running very few miles. Check out that calorie burn on the two 60-minute workouts.
I have been on the road 14 of the past 21 days. I’m traveling back to Wichita from Kentucky as I write this post. My back and hips are tight and stiff from so much time spent in cars, airplanes, and hotel beds over the past 3 weeks. This makes DDP Yoga critical in keeping my body tuned up. I’ve hit DDPY hard the past two evenings with some advanced classes as my own personal physical therapy. I took Rachel’s DDPY class yesterday and taught an online class from my hotel room this morning. The aftermath of each session felt like the conclusion of a good massage. Our church had a church-wide fast this week. Instead of the usual a food fast (due to nutrition preparation for the race), I chose a social media/television/current-events fast. It was liberating. I highly recommend periodic media fasting. I spent extra time in prayer which made an exhausting business trip seem somewhat refreshing. My focus in each DDPY session was heightened because the media fast reduces mental distractions. The television was never turned on during my 3 days in Kentucky. I felt closer to God with less noise in my head. Mind, body and spirit ready for Saturday. Let’s do this. Prov 16:9.
