12 years ago I wanted to run my first 5k
Wow, I had no idea where this would lead me.
I just wanted to run a 5k. I started my weight loss journey in June 2011 and began running two months later. At 36 years old, a 5k was something I was never capable of. Six months later I ran my first 10k. This began the process of constantly leveling up despite my age being “past my prime”.
Discipline built.
Excuses eradicated.
92 pounds gone.
12 years strong.
When ultra-running comes up, people frequently tell me “I could never do what you do.” Guess what? I used to say the same thing. In fact, I had no intention of running marathons 12 years ago and didn’t think I could achieve that level, let alone ultra-marathons.
It’s not important for everyone to become a runner. Find something that you love that improves your health and wellness. Maybe it’s swimming, lifting, weights… it doesn’t matter, just get moving. You’ll feel better and live a healthier life, which is most important.
Movement is medicine!
Go get it.
