Marathon #6 of 11 for Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is Complete

Race #6 of 11 in 11 weeks for Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is complete. Some days, everything goes right in a race and you’re happy with your performance. This was not one of those days. My hip has been sore this week, but I did not have enough time for recovery services since I was traveling. Compound that with a full day of flying plus 3 hour drive, lack of sleep and time zone changes for lower energy. I hit the pain cave around mile 13, getting much worse around 17. I also had some GI problems requiring multiple portopotty stops. Mental toughness was fully tested today; I had to dig deep to get through the final 6 miles. The weather stayed around 45 degrees with mostly light winds and I saw several Wichita folks. The course was nice; half residential and half on a paved trail. I celebrated with a stop at Whataburger…delicious! This wasn’t a good race, but I know I can make my next one much better. I have an extra day of recovery this week which will help prepare for the OKC Memorial Marathon next Sunday. Have an awesome weekend y’all! Go get it!

I have been nominated for Visionary of the Year by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.  12 nominees including myself will compete in a fundraising campaign to support LLS.  In order to draw support and awareness, I am in the middle of my craziest running challenge ever:  run 11 marathons in 11 weeks for a total of 297.8 miles.  I completed my first marathon on March 19 in White Sands, NM and my final marathon will be in Morrison, CO on June 3.  To learn more or support this cause, please visit www.mattrunsforlls.com
