Maximum Medical Improvement
Those words were uttered by my orthopedic two years ago, today.
Permanent injuries. To me, those 3 words meant, “we can’t do anything aside bolt you together with metal and shove pain pillss down your throat”. Hard pass.
I went home mad. I went home relieved. I was mad because I wasn’t interested in surgery, yet I was still in pain. I felt a great sense of relief than anger. I was ready to move on from what the doctors were telling me. I was no longer waiting on anyone. I was trusting in God and ready to get relentless. It was time to go full force with my plan: rehab my body through hard work. DDP Yoga and increased core strength helped rebuild the body while cryotherapy aided with pain management and recovery. I was confident in the plan and hit it aggressively.
I think this was the last time I was ever mad about the accident. I was ready to move on.
The rehab plan worked, but only because I diligently stuck with it. I tracked every minute of DDP Yoga, every minute of rehab work. I went as far as tracking the number of body weight squats, sit-ups and crunches completed each day. I stared at my tracker each day to remind myself the of task ahead. No excuses. Daily accountability.
I felt 100% recovered after 15 months. I continue the same rehab routine for preventative maintenance…and to feel better! I’m 45 yet my body hasn’t felt this good since my 20s.
