Answering the Most Frequent Question
The most common question people ask me about endurance running: How do you have the discipline to do that?
Answer: For me, its always having goals in front of me with deadlines. I have to look at them daily and push myself. It sucks some days. I stare at my shoes and phone while procrastinating at least once per week. But I force myself to get it done. I think about how I won’t achieve my longer term goals by skipping today’s work. And forcing myself to go get it creates the discipline. I don’t want to have self inflicted regret down the road. Discipline is like any other muscle. You don’t get it overnight. You get it by forcing yourself to do things, relentlessly. Its a non-stop process that needs continual fuel to maintain. And the discipline you build in one area of your life helps build it in others.
Go get it.
