I must control my focus; I must be free of distraction
And just like that, day 370 is in the books. I hit my annual running goal on Sunday, but I overlooked it at the time. I’m so focused on this Ultra marathon next weekend causing my brain didn’t register 1282 is greater than 1281. Oops. I overlooked the milestone. But I got it done 60 days early. I am within striking range of my highest annual total of 1467. And maybe a stretch goal of 1500? We’ll see.
Interesting election night. I did not read any coverage about the election until 7:55am this morning. Needed to get focused so I could have a distraction free day. Full work day ahead; side projects getting busier. Started 4:30am with a 2-hour workout. Workout consisted of a 3.5 mile run, 40 minutes of core/rehab work and then an hour of DDP Yoga. Then prayer/Bible time. After that I made a list of everything I wanted to do at work and at home. I read the news for 5 minutes before seizing the day. Much more enjoyable way to get through the results chaos. I fully recommend it. But it starts with accomplishing tasks before most people have their first cup of coffee. It sets the tone for the day. It takes discipline. As Jocko says, “Discipline equals freedom”. This has been my experience.
Guess what? This could last for days. I am actively choosing to not make it a distraction. My family time will not be infused with current event conversation.
